Getting the data-plane feature you need on the distro you must run

Nginx builds, a ModSecurity artifact and a Lua kit.

One recurring obstruction: the edge feature you need is available in principle and absent from the image you are allowed to run. nginx-lua builds nginx with LuaJIT across six distributions, multi-arch, rebuilt within a day of each upstream release since 2020; nginx-modsecurity ships the module as an artifact rather than another image to adopt; the WAF kit is a kit, not a product. This is the part of the estate with independent external adoption.

What is in it

  • The problem — what goes unanswered without it, and who notices first.
  • Why the obvious alternative falls short — stated plainly, including where it is the better choice.
  • How it works — the method, not a feature list.
  • Concrete use cases — with console output quoted from the repository, never reconstructed.
  • The methodology behind any number it emits — every term shown, so the figure survives a question.
  • What it deliberately does not do — the section most papers leave out.

Part of the catalogue.
